Saipem America hosted the 2011 AIM TO CURE DIABETES Sporting Clay tournament on Friday, June 24th at Westside Sporting Grounds in Katy, Texas. Saipem America raised a tournament record $32,303.54 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a non-profit organization that raises funds to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. This marks the fourth year Saipem America has hosted the AIM TO CURE DIABETES tournament, bringing the total fundraising effort in four years to over $110,000.
“As the prevalence of diabetes—both type 1 and type 2—increases exponentially in the United States and around the world, the urgency of finding a cure grows by equal measure, and the importance of supporters like Saipem America cannot be overstated. The AIM TO CURE DIABETES Sporting Clays tournament, has become an icon in the Houston Community, drawing shooters from across the city and beyond for a great day of sport, camaraderie and philanthropy. In the process, Saipem America raised over $32,000 for diabetes research, making it one of JDRF Houston Chapter’s strongest corporate supporters, and enabling us to fund promising research toward treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes. We are extraordinarily grateful to Saipem America and its colleagues in the industry for their support of this event and of our mission of curing diabetes and its complications through research.” stated Molly Naylor, Executive Director of the JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter.
Brian Fine, Saipem America’s President, stated “We are pleased with the amount of money we were able to raise with the support and generosity of our sponsors, shooters and volunteers. The proceeds from this tournament are a tremendous help towards a much needed cure and will help to improve the lives of those burdened with diabetes. It was our pleasure to support the JDRF with a one-of-a-kind charity event and hope to expand the tournament next year to generate even more exposure for those who have diabetes.”
About JDRF
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes - a disease that strikes children, adolescents, and adults suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
